In 1904 Louis Cartier granted the wish of his friend, the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, to be able to tell the time while flying. With this promise came the birth of one of the first ever wristwatches: the Santos de Cartier. While its intricate skeletonised dial and instantly identifiable exposed screws point to the label's technical expertise, its green jasper-set crown, sword-shaped hands and interchangeable straps prove that the brand's just as concerned with aesthetics, confirming this exquisite timepiece's keep-forever status.
